Uig Pottery, Uig
Run by Alan and Margaret
Freestone, the Uig Pottery is based in the north west of
the island. The workshops are laid out in an open plan format
so that you can see potters at work, either throwing pots
on a traditional potter’s wheel or on semi-automatic
machines.

knitwear only using local materials and techniques. Overlooking
the harbour at stunning Loch Portree, Over the Rainbow

Distillery, Carbost
Talisker House takes
its name from the Norse name for the mountain Thalas Gair
or Sloping Rock. Founded in 1830, one of its greatest fans
was Robert Louis Stevenson. If you fancy tasting a forty-year-old,
102° proof malt, then this trip should not be missed.
Eilean Donan Castle
This century Eilean Donan
Castle has become one of Scotland's most photographed castles
thanks to its picturesque setting on an islet in Loch Duich
by the main road to Kyle of Lochalsh, as well as being featured
in the
1984 movie Highlander.

How to find us:
By Air
Inverness airport on the Scottish mainland is served by London airports.
There are frequent flights to Scotland for our guests arriving on
transatlantic flights. From Inverness guests can take either make
the scenic railway journey or take a taxi.
By Car
According to a recent survery of sports car owners the A87 between
Ivergarry and the Isle of Skye is the best road to drive in Britain!
Participants voted for this road because of its "challenging turns
and almost traffic-free motoring". (BBC

The most direct route from the south
is via the A87 from Invergarry. After
crossing
onto
the
Isle
of Skye
by
bridge
from
Kyle
of Lochalsh,
turn left at the first roundabout and the you will find the entrance
to the MacKinnon Country House Hotel just fifty yards on your right
hand side.
By Rail
From the south take the train to Inverness. There you change to a
train bound for Kyle of Lochalsh and you can enjoy a scenic journey
that features in the book entitled ‘Most scenic train journeys
in the UK.’ It really is a wonderful journey. At Kyle you can
catch the bridge bus or take a taxi across to the hop to the island.
By Coach
Coaches’ travellers from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness can
alight outside the hotel.
